"Our rapidly changing environment is a serious concern. In my work, I emphasize the
beauty, wonder and joy we are in peril of losing. The painting “Moon at the Top of the
World” is a meditation on the stillness of the far north country and the dependence of
many creatures including us and, in this case caribou, on this part of the earth remaining
pristine. My interest and concern for the environment began when I was a child. It has
greatly increased in the past few decades as the environment combined with climate
change has made earth’s ecosystems more precarious moving me to make this issue a
primary part of my painting practice."
