Save The Earth

Artists respond to the climate crisis

Green Scream

"Deforestation occurs not only in the Amazon, but here in North America when trees are felled for development, road building and expansion, and for the forest products industry. Death by a thousand cuts, you could say, since this gradual incursion and decimation is distributed rather than concentrated in a single area. As forests are diminished, wild species and bird habitats also disappear. And in fact, studies show immense species losses of bird and animal populations in recent years - one study cited by NY Times places us now in the middle of the earth’s sixth mass extinction event. But how as an artist do you image something disappearing? In this piece, I’ve called on graphics and text to name some of the many creatures now missing. My idea is that if you pay attention, you can see the trees bleed, hear them scream.

This piece is part of a series in which I correlate the spectrum colors with specific environmental problems. See the rest of the group in my album “Climate Crisis” at https://nyartistscircle.com/artists/lucy-wilner/album/288."
