As Luck Would Have It, mixed media, 24" x 22”, 2018
"My work explores light and color. I connect textured fabrics, malleable plastics, and found objects by stitching fabrics and tensioning them on stretchers. Textures and colors invite incident light to fill gaps and traverse translucent materials. Through the transparency of my pieces, I play with properties of light. The projected images showcase the impermanence of our visual experiences.
Different transparent materials weave into each other producing unexpected colored intersections. One of these intersections contains a transparent die used in games of chance where gamblers question and rely on their luck. Two acrylic tubes are also woven into this piece as well as two painted lines one blue the other red which suggests a possible reconnection."
Papyrus, mixed media, 30" x 28”, 2018
"An Egyptian orange kaftan is cut. Another piece of turquoise crocheted scarf is stretched onto painting frames. Ribbons are woven through the stitches. Layers of vinyl colors interact in this vivid painting that evokes distant cultures. Interwoven layers move seamlessly into and out of one another. The shape of the turquoise scarf echoes the shape of papyrus, so essential to the coding of our current civilization."
