"A trip to Alaska inspired my drawing series, Portraits of Glaciers. Flying over the spectacular, rutted glacial coastline between Anchorage and Juneau motivated me to create this series of aerial portraits of glaciers around the world. When people see the beauty and individuality of glaciers, it is hard not to feel awe at their magnificence.

I created this series to memorialize these natural wonders, to bring awareness to the fact that they are melting due to climate change, and to inspire people to consider their importance. I hope to raise awareness of the dire situation of their premature melting and what that means for the planet. These complex, intricate, patterned images may seem abstract, but they are in fact realistic renderings. Each piece in the series is a portrait of a particular glacier or glacial area. Like my drawings, the concept of global warming may seem abstract, but when the viewer sees the glaciers intimately rendered in my drawings, the process feels more real and personal."
